Description
For Auction: ** Solid State PTT Module *** **** More Than One Available **** Solid State Push To Talk Assembly initially designed for the Johnson Ranger I & II, Johnson Viking I & II and a version for the Johnson Valiant I & II * PTT Module perfect for any PTT need: May be installed in almost any vacuum tube transmitter. This design applicable to any situation where there is 6.3VAC available. * Versions available for 12VAC systems or other AC voltages. * This design utilizes a Power FET driving a 2 DPDT or 3 DPDT relay,a test switch ( Ranger version only) for activating the circuit without having to use the microphone PTT circuit, onboard LED showing the circuit is energized, ( Ranger version only),robust point to point wiring, quiet operation, zero heat generated, small footprint on chassis ( footprint is about the size of the Johnson Label which it covers) and very small current drain from the 6VAC heater line. * Connections are: 6VAC: Green Wire Or Green Dot, ( Ranger: nearest connection is Lugs 3/5 of SW4b, function switch), PTT: Red Wire OR Red Dot, line connecting to the microphone connector J1 ( Ranger , pin 2), on the rear lip of the Ranger chassis, Bare buss wire: ground connection to the chassis ground; we recommend adding a ground lug to the existing ground lug fastener ( rivet or machine screw) located just behind SW4 (Ranger : mode switch). * Circuit interface connections are made from the control relay to the circuit points as detailed in the original Johnson PTT schematic **** NOTE: Our interface schematic is slightly different than SOME original Johnson PTT Schematics, in that we do not show, nor recommend, the connection to the screen resistor.(R-15). We do not recommend this connection because the connection ( grounding the PA screen B+ through R-15 in the receive mode) stresses to an early failure R-15. * The PTT assembly mounts in the space between V3 and V4, requires two holes( or double sided sticky foam tape) : to ensure tape chassis adhesion, lightly sand the PTT module bottom surface and also the Ranger Chassis where you plan to mount the PTT module, then clean with Acetone. Two small holes to be drilled in the main chassis. One of the PTT assembly mounting screws is an adjacent terminal strip mounting screw. If your Ranger has riveted terminal strip mounting screws, we recommend the applicable rivet be drilled and replaced with 4-40 machine screw and 4-40 keps nut. This PTT module does not interfere with the Low Voltage Rectifier tube socket: Either a solid state plug in or the OEM 6AX5 tube may be utilized. *This PTT assembly is the one we utilize in all of our Ranger rebuilds. Power requirements are very low ( a few MA from the 6.3VAC tube heater circuit). The assembly is compact, easily installed ,designed to have a long service life. Circuit "PTT current" is very low ( 0.8ma:All the PTT line does is enable the Power FET relay driver). * Each assembly is custom made so there may be some physical differences in appearance between units. * Custom module assemblies available, all we need is a pattern to fabricate the module *This PTT assembly may be used in any application where there is 6.3VAC available. Versions also available for 12.6VAC and 24VAC You will need to furnish: Interface wiring to the Ranger, (Please refer to the Johnson Ranger Owners Manual for the factory PTT wiring schematic), relay interconnect and PTT line wiring), 4-40 mounting machine screws and nuts ( or double sided sticky foam mounting tape). NOTE: RED MARK ON PTT CHASSIS: PTT LINE CONNECTION GREEN MARK ON PTT CHASSIS ( GREEN WIRE) IS 6VAC CONNECTION BARE WIRE ON PTT CHASSIS: CHASSIS GROUND CONNECTION. * This assembly allows you to remove all the old power robbing and heat producing original Johnson PTT circuitry ( Resistive divider) and plate relay. * Small footprint ( Approximately 1.6 X 1.75") * Very low power consumption from the 6VAC heater line * Easy to install * Easily repairable or removable if necessary * Modern solid state design ( Power FET) * Robust circuitry * Photos show a typical and neat installation in a Johnson Ranger. * Easily adapted to almost any transmitter that utilizes vacuum tubes. ( If the application does not have a vacuum tube heater circuit, a small 6.3VAC transformer would be a great option). * Application notes, unit schematic and relay pin-out delivered, after sale, via Email ( PDF document IF we have your email address ) or hard copies included in the package with the PTT assembly. * Shipping: USPS Flat Rate Box to the lower 48 and to international buyers. *PHOTOS: : TYPICAL ITEM YOU WILL RECEIVE, STOCK PHOTO. PTT MODULE MAY USE A THREE PDT OR A TWO PDT RELAY DEPENDING ON RELAYS IN STOCK. TYPICAL INSTALLATION ( STICKY DOUBLE SIDED TAPE) ADJACENT TO THE LV & HV RECTIFIER TUBE SOCKETS. SERIAL NUMBER: Pending * Versions of this design are easily adaptable to other Johnson transmitters or to any transmitter that has vacuum tubes. EG: Heath, Collins etc, and with a small 6.3VAC transformer, to non-vacuum tube transmitter applications. PTT configurations available for the Viking I & II and the Valiant I & II. * For those who want an integrated PTT/Bias/Keyer sub panel for the Johnson Ranger (also adaptable for other Johnson model transmitters), contact us for details or see our listing. * PTT Module for Valiant I & Valiant II available.
